GTBJF New Gurudwara Building Project

Dear Supporter,
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

We hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. We are reaching out to you today with great excitement and hope for the future of our community.

Background:
The Sikh community of Fairfield, Westchester and Rockland counties started meeting in basements of people’s homes. After outgrowing that, they started renting banquet halls in hotels in Stamford. During 1995-97, rented buildings in Norwalk, and eventually bought the Peoples Bank building (at 622 West Ave) in Norwalk, CT in 1997 to call it home! For past many years, the community has been on the lookout for a better place (an existing building or to construct a new building) that meets needs of the current and future generations.

Path Forward:
After much prayer, planning, and hard work, we are ready to embark on the journey of building a new Gurdwara that will serve as a beacon of spiritual light, education, and community service. This new Gurdwara (at 283 Richards Ave, Norwalk) will provide a space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to worship, learn, and serve in the spirit of Sikhi. With your SUPPORT, we will be able to build a larger Prayer Hall, a Community Kitchen (langar hall), Classrooms for Sikh Education, and a dedicated space for Seva (selfless Service) activities that benefit those in need.

Impactful Outreach:
Our small community has a very rigorous outreach program and makes every effort to give back to the boarder community of Fairfield County. Serving free water at the Memorial Day Parade, walking in Norwalk Hospital Cancer Walk, organizing Food Drives for Person-to-Person, making sandwiches for Open Door Shelter, collecting and wrapping toys during Christmas season, serving Thanksgiving lunch at Community Church, tying turbans on hundreds of people attending NICE festival, sending food to Doctors and Healthcare workers at Norwalk Hospital during COVID-19, hosting Interfaith Prayer services at the Gurudwara – are some of the annual activities on our calendar. All in all, our local Sikh community play a very active role and contributes their best to the community where we live!
