We are fundraising to support Good Shed Foundation (GSF).
Our work for vulnerable children, families and communities is making a huge difference. We meet the school expenses for children who would otherwise not be in school because their caregivers are too poor. Can you help us help more children? Currently, GSF operates in the Districts of Wakiso, Kamuli and Madi-Okollo in Uganda. GSF also supports the elderly persons who, in the rural areas, are the main caregivers for their grandchildren, yet they also have pressing needs ranging from lack of access to basic medical care, decent accommodation, good feeding and all the effects of abject poverty.
GSF is also training groups of women to form Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), in a bid to teach them to harness the skills they have and save from their income to improve conditions in their homes. Majority of the women are uneducated themselves and engaged in activities like selling fish, hair-dressing, digging in gardens for pay, and the like. These efforts to economically empower the women were informed by the situation on the ground where majority of vulnerable homes are either mother-headed or grandparent headed.
Thanks to donations from well-wishing individuals, GSF, which acquired NGO status in 2023, is currently educating 98 children and supporting over 200 elderly persons with basic needs because it would be futile to support the child and ignore their home situation. The numbers are growing and so must the funds to reach them. GSF is a trustworthy partner and have had their books audited annually, with unqualified audit opinions.
Where will the money go?
£500 (UGX 2,350,000) will translate into 8 more children staying in school through the Education Aid Programme .
£400 (UGX 1,880,000) will allow the Foundation to support more women especially Grandmas on the Village Savings & Loans Associations (VSLAs) with start-up capital to boost their incomes and promote economic empowerment. These funds will also help the elderly persons with the much needed medical care.
