Grocery Boxes For Folks Effected by Covid
More than 8 weeks ago, after a friend of mine asked me if I could order product for his neighborhood to help them avoid grocery stores, I began working with my purveyors to buy bulk product and create at-cost (full disclosure, their $10 admin fee goes toward my labor force) grocery boxes that my communities in Sharon and Canton have signed up to buy in advance. Through that program we have supplied groceries for approximately 900 families (317 in our highest week!), provided our supply chain with much needed purchasing power, employed multiple folks who otherwise would have been out of work and kept folks from further exposure by crowding grocery stores. That in itself has been a worthwhile
project!
Phase 2 of our project is to supply a slightly adjusted grocery box (focusing more on microwaveable single serve meals, along with Fresh produce, quality foods and much needed cleaning/PPE supplies) to at-risk folks who can not afford to purchase these items for themselves. I am working with a large non-profit who is paying for many folks to receive boxes in their areas, and we plan to expand our personal program to include Greater Boston.
This program will provide revenue ($10 per Box to pack and Deliver, just like our current program) to massively effected Boston food Truck companies and out of work restaurant staffs. Not my own, for whatever that’s worth!
Funds are needed for two reasons:
1) As we wait for state funding to cover costs (the businesses we’re employing and the purveyors we’re purchasing from) in the project already in existence, we need to build up enough to float these costs. People need product now, we are ready and don’t want to wait for red tape to get cut so we can pay these people.
2) Within a two week time frame we plan to extend this program to greater Boston, employing more folks and helping more businesses while- most importantly- supplying more folks who need with what it is they need!
