Hello friends, family, and our wonderful community!
At The Cove Tasmania, our mission has always been to create experiences that nourish both the body and the soul. Today, we are reaching out to ask for your help in bringing a truly special vision to life:
Griffin’s Community Garden. The Story Behind the Garden
This project was completely inspired by the incredible dedication of Griffin, a deeply valued member of our team here at The Cove. Every Tuesday, Griffin arrives at the property alongside his wonderful carer, Penny.
Backed by our Grounds and Maintenance staff, Griffin has poured his heart into tending to his small garden plot. Watching Griffin find so much purpose, joy, and friendship in the soil made us realise something profound: we need to open this experience up to the entire community.
We know there are so many others in our local community—individuals facing isolation, people living with disabilities, or those just looking for a safe space to belong—who would deeply benefit from a therapeutic, inclusive sanctuary like this.
Our Vision
We are expanding Griffin’s plot into a vibrant, fully accessible community garden. It will be a place where people of all abilities can connect with nature, learn life-long skills, and build lasting friendships.
To make it truly inclusive, the garden will feature:
Total Accessibility: Wide, smooth pathways and custom raised garden beds so everyone can participate comfortably, regardless of physical ability.
Year-Round Cultivation: A dedicated greenhouse and shade house to protect delicate seedlings and herbs.
A Sensory & Relaxation Area: A tranquil zone featuring comfortable seating, vibrant sunflowers, and a calming water feature for quiet reflection.
Farm-to-Table Sustainability: The organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown here will supply Basalt Restaurant and the Atrium Cafe & Bar, be available for our guests and members of the community
A Tasmanian Indigenous Interpretive Garden: A special educational space showcasing native Tasmanian plants and their traditional edible and medicinal uses.
How We Are Contributing
We aren't just asking for help; we are heavily investing in this ourselves. The Cove Tasmania is fully funding and installing: All critical infrastructure irrigation, lighting, etc.) and the relaxation water feature with premium outdoor seating and garden furniture
Why We Need You
To get this off the ground, we need to clear the land and build the secure, protective structure that keeps local wildlife and farm animals out. Your generous donations will go directly toward buying the raw materials needed to construct the bones of the garden, including: Lattices for our living, edible passionfruit fences, seeds, soil, and seedlings to get our first harvest growing. We have had support from local businesses and the site has been levelled - Lanscape Concepts, the base is being provided by Haardings Group and fencing will be donated by Steve Hays Fencing. Broun Orchards are providing planter boxes and Michael Robert Plumbing are purchasing our possum repellants.
