Greystones celebrates BRIDIE MOONEY - with our very own GoFundMe fundraiser.

New 9ft high Corton Steel Totem at Greystones Railway station – featuring a wonderful portrait of Mrs Mooney.

The shop around the corner for 62 years …… the lady who ran it for over 22,000 days! …. And the hundreds of thousands of school kids and their families who she served for decades.

Just 10 years ago on Christmas Eve 2015 Bridie finally retired, stepping out from behind the counter, and away from a family business she had started 62 years earlier alongside her husband, Robert. It was a shop that sold everything, from washing-up liquid to bags of coal, from homemade furniture to the holy grail of Mooney's shop, sweets.

Over her six decades behind that counter, Bridie was pretty much Willy Wonka in a dress to generation after generation of children.

It meant the lady was a big part of many families' lives, from parents to kids and on to grandkids. And for many a local, Bridie Mooney will always be a big part of Greystones – and now with your help she always will.

All doners will be invited to the Totem launch to enjoy delicious sweets, reminiscent of those once sold by Mrs. Mooney in her cherished sweet shop.

The most generous donors will be acknowledged in a framed poster adjoining the totem at Greystones Railway Station.
