Support the Women & Children of Unity Village in Kenya with Clean Water and Solar Energy – for a self-reliant Future!
Hey Everyone, I am Hanna and I initiated this project based on a trip to a very inspiring community living in a village in Kenya.
We often take water and electricity for granted, but the absence of those ressources makes life very challenging. This is what the women of the Unity village in the Samburu desert in Kenya are facing on a daily basis:
1. NO access to clean & safe drinking WATER
2. NO access to reliable ENERGY
With the project “Greentech4impact” the community of the village, the local foundation 33 empire and I partnered up to tackle these two problems, by setting up an offgrid solar- and watersystem for the village.

WHAT IS THE UNITY VILLAGE AND WHICH PROBLEMS IS THE COMMUNITY FACING?
There are currently 23 women including children (on average around 3 per women) living in the community. The village was founded with the idea to create a safe space for women & their children, since they had escaped oppression, violence, and severe gender discrimination, which is the norm among their culture. Men are allowed to visit, but are not allowed to live in the village, because those women decided to take their future into their own hands.
However, being without men also means they are on their own with many tasks, from making money to raising children. The absence of clean water and electricity makes all of those tasks even more challenging.
Without access to safe drinking water, the women are constantly at risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, and diarrheal illnesses. Additionally, access to clean water is essential for socio-economic development. Collecting water consumes valuable time and energy, limiting opportunities for education and economic empowerment. Also energy is essential to nearly every major activity nowadays, like lighting, business, education or food production.
So let’s support those women with a solar- and water system, which will make life easier and create opportunities.
I will take a sabbatical from my work to support the implementation of the project personally on-site, leveraging my technical background in engineering, renewable energy systems and project management. I will cooperate with my project partner Jill Atieno from Kenya, who’s the founder of the 33 Empire foundation. Jill has been involved in charity projects all over East Africa for more than two decades.

WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
To make this vision a reality, we need to raise 30.000 €.
This will cover:
- Installation of solar & battery-system to light up the entire village
- Drilling of the water well and installation of the water pump & system
- Building a community hub, which will be equipped with devices such as lights, a fridge, phone chargers and solar cookers
- Setting up internet access
- Operational costs for 2 years, for instance the internet, maintenance of devices or the solar & water system
- Travel costs of the team
- Documentation of the project’s impact
