I'm Oliver Buckley, a Life Scout in Troop 146. For my Eagle Scout project, I’m planting of 44 native trees and 12 native shrubs at Auerfarm in Bloomfield, Connecticut. This farm includes flat planting areas, hilly pastures, and wetlands with farm animals nearby. I’ve carefully chosen native species based on the geography and ecosystem needs—wetland species like black willows and pussy willows will go in moist lowlands, while species like sugar maples and tulip trees will be planted on higher, drier ground.

The full planting includes:

8 Sycamores

8 Pin Oaks

2 Black Gums

1 Spicebush

2 Yellow Birches

6 Black Willows

2 Tulip Trees

10 Sugar Maples

6 Pussy Willows

Shrubs and pollinator plants:

4 Mountain Laurels

4 Silky Willows

4 Black Chokeberries

This project will restore wildlife habitat, reduce erosion, support pollinators, and improve biodiversity at Auerfarm. These native plants will benefit bees, butterflies, birds, and small mammals, helping to build a more sustainable and resilient ecosystem.

To complete the project, I am fundraising for:

Garden tools (shovels, gloves, wheelbarrows, etc.)

First aid supplies

Food and drinks for volunteers

Safety supplies ( gloves, eye protection)
