Hi everyone!
As many of you know may or may not know, I do a bunch of volunteer work with the Culver-Palms YMCA's youth programs. This summer, I'll be directly working with a group of about 50 teenagers at our annual summer camp. My goal every year is to teach these teenagers about the qualities of leadership as they prepare to take on larger roles in camp in the following years, and eventually out into the real world! Seeing as such, each summer we do a community service project for the camp that hosts us (YMCA Camp Whittle) to teach our youth about civic responsibility, and to show them that hard work pays off!
This summer, my co-director Chloe Huerta and I have taken on a project where we'll be facilitating the building of a greenhouse at Camp Whittle. Our teens will be doing nearly all of the work, from the gardening to the building of the actual structure. The greenhouse will serve as not only a way to teach our teens about the values of giving back, but as a place to educate youth from all over California about the importance of sustainability and healthy living for years to come! Unfortunately, the materials for putting up this greenhouse aren't cheap, and I need your help!
After pricing out several different strucures and the materials to go with them, I've set a goal of raising $1,000. I assure you that none of this money will go to waste; the more funds we can gather, the better the structure will be, the longer it will last, and the more youth it will serve! Any donation, small or large, is appreciated--even if it's just taking the five dollars we spend on coffee and putting it towards this cause.
