Green My Grange

Little Lake Grange #670 (part of a national grass-roots fraternal organization) was founded in Willits, Mendocino County, California in 1938. We have been an integral part of this rural low-income community since. In the mid1960's our Grange raised funds and purchased an outdated school, built in 1920 and it became a community center for Willits.

We are asking for help with keeping our building available for our community's use into the future. We recently found that our metal water pipes are so old that they have become porous and are leaking AND that they were wrapped with insulation that contained asbestos. So, before we can even address the leaky pipes, we must remediate the asbestos.

We have partnered over the years with local organizations whose efforts support our community in areas of environmental

conservation (Willits Environmental Center {WELL}); community sustainability (Willits Economic Localization {WELL}); and community wellness (North Coast Opportunities {NCO}) by offering our building's auditorium/stage for various activities including fundraising and community forums. We have done fundraising and donated to our community sponsoring Seniors, the Fire Departments, and children's sports, among others. Our community needs this building to be an open and healthy resource for activities that include use by: Nuestra Alianza de Willits whose mission it is to offer support to our local Hispanic community; the Willits Farmers Market to provide a winter venue for local farmers and artisans; and our commercial kitchen that is used by local small food businesses that need a certified kitchen...
