This year I'm running the Great North Run for The People's Kitchen: a local charity providing food, shelter, clothing, toiletries, comfort and friendship to homeless and struggling individuals across Newcastle and the North East since 1985.

Having volunteered weekly at The People's Kitchen for over five years, I've seen first-hand the incredible work every member of the team does each and every day - serving hot food and kindness to hundreds of people from all walks of life.

I'm not a runner - I'm thrilled with myself if I manage a 5k - so the idea of a half marathon fills me with absolute terror. I'm committed to doing it though, and I can think of no better cause.
