Great North Run for Alzheimer’s Society
This year I will be running my first ever half marathon in support of Alzheimer’s Society. After many years of symptoms and a very steady cognitive decline, my wonderful, supportive and kind Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2022. Although his symptoms are managed with medication, this horrible disease has changed every aspect of his personality (except for his love of crosswords, the cat, and his love for me and his family).
Alzheimers disease is incredibly common, affecting 1 in 14 people over the age of 65, and so it’s very likely you have experienced or will experience caring for someone with this condition. Therefore you will understand how cruel and complicated this disease can be.
Those that know me personally will know how difficult this is for me to open up and discuss my lovely dad in this way, but I hope I can raise some money and hopefully be able to make a small change now which will lead to a big impact in the future for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
I’ve never ran anything in my life, so even if you don’t care about this charity one bit, just donate so you can see me crying, sore and bleeding at the finish line.
Thankyou all so much, lots of love x
