We have this beautiful little airport, KGTG, in Grantsburg, WI. We are in the beautiful country just 70 miles north of Minneapolis/ St. Paul. KGTG is right next to the Crex Meadows Wildlife preserve. We have a grass strip and a 3,000 ft asphalt runway. This airport has been a part of our community for over 70 years.

But now our village government wants to close KGTG. They won't accept federal Entitlement funds to maintain the airport. For the past 10 years we have worked to show the village board that this airport is important for Grantsburg and could become nearly self-sustaining as well as being a choice destination for pilots with access to our beautiful village, camping for planes, and proximity to the St. Croix River recreation area. To give you an idea of runway condition, I've put a picture of our runway vs a well maintained runway. The WI Bureau of Aeronautics rates the KGTG runway as the worst public runway in the entire state.

Despite our best efforts to educate, the village has remained adamantly opposed to take responsibility to maintain the runway. They claimed the community didn't want the airport and had a referendum to demonstrate this, however the village supports this airport by over a 2 to 1 margin. The board then just ignored that vote.

2 1/2 years ago the KGTG hangar owners finally sued the village to enforce proper maintenance since our hangar contracts stated that the village would indeed maintain the airport. It is our last ditch effort to save KGTG. But in these 2 1/2 years they have proved masters at delay. We still haven't had our first court date and the longer this goes on the more expensive it gets for us.

Right now we have spent over $50,000 on this suit with another big bill coming up for the trial itself. We are dragging bottom for funding. We have a very good case but I want to make sure we can actually have our day in court. I have taken responsibility for our legal fees and I am reluctantly asking for help to make sure we get our day in court.
