Grandson's James travel costs for cancer treatment

At the start of May 2021, my 14-year-old grandson James, was rushed to hospital with suspected dehydration caused by a very severe sickness bug. After tests James was sent for an MRI scan and the news was devastating…he had a brain tumour. In a matter of seconds, the world was turned upside down for all his family…
After draining fluid from his brain, James went through a 4 ½ hour operation to have the tumour removed and thankfully, the surgeon said that he had managed to remove it all. Then it was a waiting game for the biopsy results, which came back on his 15th birthday on the 11th of May. I wish I could say that he got the ‘all clear’, but the tumour proved to be cancerous.
James is now going through a long hard course of radiotherapy and chemo, which will run over the coming months. Therefore, we are trying to raise funds to help Mum and Dad to give James the best support they can, while he goes through his cancer treatment.
They stayed in the Sick Children’s hospital’s hotel throughout this traumatic time and it was an expensive experience staying 24/7, during which time, the household bills continued to run along with the fuel costs to run back and forward to make sure that his 17-year-old sister Abi, was coping as best she could while she took care of the family home.
To update everyone, his radiotherapy treatment begun 6 weeks ago, and James is struggling to eat, (he is very thin now and has lost some of his hair, more upsetting for him than not eating) and the travelling is costing more than we originally thought it would.
His Chemotherapy will start after a few weeks rest. This routine will happen a further 3 times over the coming months of treatment.
His family live in the Scottish Borders and the hospital he will attend is 1 ½ to 2 hour’s drive away in Edinburgh. The cost of fuel and food while they take James backwards and forwards, and the loss of income while they support him, is having major impact on their household income and is a cause of major worry and stress for his parents knowing that they will be running into debt because they will be with James every step of the way, crossing each challenging bridge as they come to it right beside him.
