Brenda Velasquez, almost 70 years old, is facing extreme financial hardships and is on the brink of homelessness while taking care of her seven-year-old granddaughter alone. She loves life, the land, and people dearly. She has spent most of her life taking care of others, being a single mother of two, raising her first grandchild, and now her second. In the face of many challenges, she has been resilient and always found ways to push through. She is generous and has come to the aid of others in every circumstance and now needs your support.

Brenda has been facing housing insecurity all while struggling to find the means to support herself and her seven-year-old granddaughter alone. She sold her house in Guatemala City with the plan of building a new home in a rural area. Unfortunately, she was scammed by contractors who left her with no money and no home. The house she is trying to build was left unfinished without windows, doors, electricity, or running water. She currently has temporary housing until the end of February and must find a way to finish her home before that. Her seven-year-old granddaughter has known little stability throughout her life. She has experienced abandonment, neglect, and feeling unwanted from her parents in addition to financial and housing instability, and scarce access to necessities such as food, water, and shelter. We are deeply concerned that this may lead to many different issues throughout her lifetime. Her granddaughter did not choose this life and is now facing these issues as just a young child. She deserves a stable place to call home where she can thrive, learn, and grow.

Brenda's plan for her home is first to finish the main house for herself and her granddaughter to live in. She then plans to dig a well for running water because her home is off-grid in the mountains. After that, she plans to implement a solar electricity system, and her last hope is to build a few campsites to rent out to create income and financial stability. $2000 would allow her to finish building her home. An additional $2000 would allow her to dig a well and have running water, and another $1000 would ensure she has electricity in her home.

Both Brenda and her granddaughter deserve rest, peace, and comfort in a stable environment. Children and elders are among the most vulnerable in our society and we hope that you will consider supporting them. Your donation will directly provide Brenda with the means to get through this hard time and reduce the amount of trauma that her granddaughter is currently facing.
