Grace runs the London Marathon for Dramatize

On 21st April 2024, I will be running the TCS London Marathon for Dramatize.

Dramatize is a theatre company for individuals with learning disabilities with venues in Ashford and Shepperton.

The people-centred charity provides meaningful life based skills, work experience, therapies and fun for students. They provide a full timetable that offers a wide range of activities and workshops, centring around providing purposeful opportunities and adventures.

This is a cause incredibly close to my heart as my sister Molly was one of the original students when the charity was founded in 2011, and has been a full time student for 4 years.

Dramatize supports Molly's needs but so much more. My sister Molly has Fragile X, a genetic disorder which causes her to have physical difficulties and severe learning disabilities. Dramatize gives Molly community based experiences such as horse riding, companion cycling, regular boat rides, yoga sessions , and most excitingly for Mols, music!

Her peer group of young learning disabled adults with a range of disabilities that are completely inclusive and the young energetic staff who facilitate the activities bring so much joy to her life in a safe and caring environment.

Dramatize are seeking £2000 to run a Sensory Book Club for our students with physical and sensory impairments to socialise with like minded peers whilst exploring, through stories, subjects and ideas that affect our lives. The group offers the students the opportunity to build upon their confidence, provide a way to connect with others in the local community and have fun. Their stories are told through voice and emotion rather than words and pictures. Simple items to touch, smell and look at are used for the students to engage with during the story.

This funding will enable Dramatize to run a books club, once a month for 1 year. The book club will be open to adults with learning disabilities within the local community and free of charge to attend.
