Someone I love is having a tough time. We are raising funds on behalf of our dear friend, Sarah, who is facing a serious legal situation following the divorce from a domestic violence abuser with a child involved. She urgently needs qualified legal representation.

While the divorce is final, there is now a complex child custody dispute. Sarah and her abuser have reached a court mediated custody agreement, that he is unlawfully refusing to follow. For example, despite being the primary custodian and having joint custody, her Ex-Husband has refused to let her see her daughter.

To date it has been over 6 weeks since he has allowed her to see her daughter. Per the agreement, Sarah dropped her daughter off and hasn't seen her since. Furthermore, her daughter was unlawfully enrolled at a school. In response, she has attempted to resolve this through the court system, but he refuses to be served. Over the time of this divorce proceeding, Sarah has hired two different lawyers, but she needs more effective representation. She has gone to the police with both court documentation and evidence of abuse but has been told that this is still a civil matter.... pointing to more legal costs.

Legal matters are overwhelming; emotionally. mentally financially. the cost of retaining an experienced attorney, court filings, and ongoing legal support has quickly become more than one person can manage alone. Having proper legal counsel is critical to ensuring Sarah's rights are protected and that her case is handled fairly and professionally.

Sarah is a fighter. In the face of all of this, while working full time, she has gone to the public law library and done extensive research to help fight for herself and her daughter including filling out and filing papers on her own behalf. While educating herself on the law that she's interacting with is a start, she still needs the help of a capable and qualified lawyer to make things start happening.

Sarah is doing everything possible to navigate this responsibly, but legal systems are complex and costly. This is where community support will really make a lifechanging difference.
