Meet Hayden - a precocious, adorable 5 year old from London, ON.
She loves Paw Patrol, her baby sister, her kitties and the Beatles.
She's also beat cancer twice and is about to embark on a third battle.
First diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2014 when she was 22 months old, Hayden went into remission in June 2016 and relapsed again in October 2016. As part of her second battle with leukemia, she underwent a stem-cell transplant at Sick Kids Hospital in March 2017 and again went into remission last year. After nearly a year cancer-free, the leukemia has returned once again and she's gearing up for a new fight with this awful disease.
We often get asked how people can help (and we're so appreciative of every single effort that's been made over the past four years to support us!).
However, the biggest challenge for the family in the months ahead will likely be financial - Jon (dad) is continuing to work where possible during treatment but Lindsay (mom) will be unable to work while Hayden is in the hospital. Additionally, because Lindsay returned to work for a week before Hayden's most recent relapse, she is no longer eligible for EI support from the government.
So, what would really help?
1. If you've got a cure for leukemia, we'd REALLY love that.
2. Register as a blood donor - it really is in you to give, costs nothing, and can legitimately save so many lives. (https://blood.ca/en/donate)
3. Contribute to our GoFundMe campaign and help alleviate the financial stress that Hayden's recent diagnosis will have on the family in the months ahead.
Any financial contributions received would be used to support daily living expenses for the family during treatment and hospital-related expenses (i.e. parking and food during stays). Treatment may also involve an extended stay in the United States - a new and added expense for the family.
On behalf of the family, thank you for your continued support - Hayden has the greatest community of supporters and we're so appreciative of everyone who has reached out with a kind word, encouraging message.
