Mussolini marchers fundraise for refugees!

My name's Harry Pinero and I'm turning an anti-immigration march in Italy into a fundraiser for African migrants! We all know fascists love a good march. Well I’ve found a rally in a small town in Italy called Predappio where they march each year to the grave of former Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, who taught Hitler how to be a fascist.

I’ve decided to put all that marching to good use. With your generous donation, I’m going to make it so that every metre they walk in honor of their fascist icon, they’re going to be raising money for a refugee football team in Rome called Liberi Nantes. The players are refugees and asylum seekers most of whom have made the incredibly dangerous journey by boat from North Africa. They have fled civil wars in Africa and climate change induced floods and famines that are currently ravaging the country.

If they survive the dangerous crossing without sinking, these guys often find themselves taken to internment camp on the island of Lampedusa where they are kept for years at a time in horrible conditions until they are allowed to apply for asylum.

And when they finally get to Italy, they suffer regular racism and it’s getting worse. Italy’s new prime minister Giorgia Meloni used to be part of the Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI), a party that was openly apologetic for former dictator Benito Mussolini’s regime.
