Goodlin Family's 4Runner Rebuild
Donation protected
Jacob & Noelle Goodlin need your help! Their 1996 Toyota 4Runner that they’ve driven for 10 years on the unpaved roads of Cambodia is on its last leg and needs a full overhaul.
Just $6,000 US is all that's required for their reliable mechanic to completely overhaul the entire vehicle including engine work, rust & body wear, new tires, brakes, shocks, and more. Please help us raise the $6,000 US before Thanksgiving 2020.
This extensive repair work will restore the Goodlin's 4Runner for another 5-10 years of use as their family and work’s only transportation method.
Jacob & Noelle Goodlin, along with their 3 boys, have been serving in Cambodia for over 10 years and live fully on support. Their mission is to help support vulnerable and disadvantaged youth and families in Sihanoukville and Kampot, Cambodia.

Why repair the 4Runner instead of buy new or used?
· The Goodlins serve in Cambodia purely on the support of others who believe in the service they’re doing there. They are not salaried so large expenses like this must come from supporters.
· Because there are no car manufacturers in Cambodia, new cars must be imported. Import fees nearly double the price of a vehicle, ie. a new $48,000 4Runner would cost about $96,000 in Cambodia due to import fees.
· Because new car prices are so high, newer used vehicles also retain high values. For example a 2006 Toyota Tacoma would sell for $20,000. Follow this link to see comparable options. https://www.khmer24.com/en/search?q=2006+tacoma&category=cars-and-vehicles
· Because they are only the second owner of their 4Runner, the Goodlins know the maintenance that’s been performed and what’s still required. A used vehicle’s maintenance records and maintenance work could not be trusted as much as his vehicle’s, making the high price of a newer used vehicle not worth the risk.
· They’ve known their reliable mechanic for as long as they’ve owned the 4Runner. He’s honest and very skillful. Also, because labor is significantly cheaper in Cambodia, the mechanic will be able to make extensive repairs at a very reasonable rate.

Why repair now?
· A decade of driving on poorly maintained and unpaved roads has done a number on the shocks, brake pads and discs, bearings, and steering rack. Twice a month they travel 2 hours back and forth to neighboring cities as they serve in both Kampot and Sihanoukville.
· Because the 4Runner has approximately 200,000 miles, the engine and transmission are in need of a full overhaul.
· Cambodia is constantly humid, rainy, and warm, leading to rusty parts and body damage . The 4Runner is already leaking water into the interior, and if they don’t make repairs this will only grow worse.

What will the $6,000 US cover?
· Overhaul the engine, transmission, repair rust & body wear, get new tires, brakes pads and discs, steering rack, shocks, radiator, power steering, and power brakes
· It will include a complete paint job, restore the 4Runner's 4X4 capability, restore the ABS (anti-lock braking system), and repair new headliners/materials damaged by water leaks.
· Their repairman agreed to fix anything that’s beyond 50% of its usable life under the hood, on the inside, and underneath the vehicle, all for $6,000.
What is the 4Runner used for?
· As a family of 2 adults and 3 kids, their 4Runner is the only vehicle they have that can transport the whole family. They have to take regular trips to Cambodia’s capital city for renewal of passports and visas, and they travel 2 times per month back to Sihanoukville from Kampot often fully loaded with supplies and people.
· They live in Kampot but serve in Kampot and Sihanoukville, requiring at least 2 trips a month between the towns over 2 hours from each other. As you can see in the photos the roads are rough, often unpaved, full of pot holes, which does a number on the vehicle over time.
· They use the 4Runner to transport clients and staff to work centers, run work errands around the area, and haul heavy equipment regularly to outfit clients with what they need to live, learn, and work.
How much of the $6,000 will be used for the repairs?
· All of it!
· The repairman will oversee all the work himself as the 4Runner will need to go to several specialty shops.
· The repairman said it will be like a new vehicle when they get it back!
When will the repairs take place?
· As soon as possible! Once the $6,000 has been raised, they will take the 4Runner to the shop.
· Their repairman said that due to the extensive repairs required on the 4Runner, the 4Runner will be in the shop for a month. The Goodlins are hoping the repairs can be done by the end of November so they can have their family and work vehicle back before the rainy season gets worse.
So join me today and raise the funds the Goodlins need to restore the vehicle they need to live and serve well into the future.
Thank you!
