In October, I’ll be travelling to Durban and while we’re there, we have the opportunity to support a local community initiative that is doing something incredibly special for elderly community members.

The Knitting Club and Sewing Group provides a safe and welcoming space where gogos (grandmothers) of the community can come together each week to connect, create, share stories and, most importantly, find a sense of purpose while feeling cared for and valued.

The club relies on donations to provide wool, fabric, cotton and other craft materials that the gogos use to create beautiful handmade items.

During our time in Durban, we’ll also be volunteering our time — helping with activities, spending time with the elders, sharing meals, and simply being there to connect and support the community.
