As a recent alum of Connecticut College, I, like many of us off-campus community members, have been incredibly impressed with the efforts of student organizers and activists over the past week. The Student Voices for Equity (SVE) movement is challenging our institution's ingrained white supremacy and its corollary discriminations and demanding radical change so the values of our community may be represented in our administration. Student organizers are currently working around the clock to maintain the safety and well-being of their peers locked in Fanning, while planning and executing protests, communicating with media, and much more. This GoFundMe has been established in communication with SVE to financially support their efforts.

SVE is currently being funded by the Student Government Association (SGA), at the discretion of the Chief of Finance, Maddie Vanech '23, who is also SVE's Finance Point Person. Though SGA has the funds to continue supporting SVE's efforts, alumni and other community members have expressed interest in financially supporting the SVE movement, and it is unclear how long SVE will need to protest, so I have created this fundraiser in consultation with SVE in hopes that we can help meet their needs.

Funds will be used to provide food and supplies to student organizers and activists, including the fanning occupiers and the SVE organizers. Your contributions could become baby wipes & dry shampoo for occupiers who have no access to showers, healthy meals for the student organizers who cannot make it to the dining hall as they are engaged in constant organizing, or paint and cloth for protesters to make banners. The money raised here will be turned into a check (or several checks!) to SGA and earmarked for student activism. Once donated, it will be managed by the Chief of Finance and SVE Finance Point Person (Maddie Vanech, '23). Any funds left over after SVE's demands are met in full will be added to a "Student Activism Fund" within the SGA, which will be managed by the Chief of Finance in consultation with the SGA executive board and future student activism groups.
