Please help my friend Sabrina access revolutionary new immunotherapy that will give her a chance at life.
Sabrina and I met on our first day at UofT, and were inseparable by Christmas. She’s 31 now, and her life should still be just beginning, but she’s had a rare and aggressive form of soft-tissue cancer called synovial sarcoma since she was 28. It’s getting worse, and without access to specialized immunotherapy, it's a death sentence.
The cancer started in her knee, but by September 2025 it had spread to both her lungs and was Stage IV. She’s had radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery (in her words: variety is the spice of life), but even if she responds perfectly to every treatment standardly available, the prognosis is terminal. With your help we can try to change that!
There’s more hope in the US, where they have a potentially life-saving treatment called Tecelra, but unfortunately it’s not available compassionately. Even with a manufacturer discount that she’s secured, it’s got a price tag of USD$560,000 (CAD$785,000). She’s tried every possible avenue of accessing it through the Ontario healthcare system, but the Ministry of Health has shot her down over and over. You may have read about it in the press, as she’s still trying to fight against their funding rejections.
She’s spent months fighting for the healthcare system to cover her treatment, because she strongly believes that no Canadian should have to crowdfund for their life. But while she continues that fight, her body can’t afford to wait.
If you would be in a position to help fund her fight against cancer, it would be so deeply appreciated. She’s someone who wants to make a difference in the world for others, and she has such a bright spark - everyone can see it as soon as they talk to her. She has no intention of giving up the fight with the Ontario government, because she doesn’t want to let them continually deny treatment for those in her situation. I want to make sure she’s around to keep being a thorn in their side. There’s no one I’d rather have as David to their Goliath.
If she ever does not need the funds raised for her own cancer treatment, or in the event of her death, all remaining money will be donated to others in similar situations seeking life-saving care.
