OWEN ANTHONY MACIK
October 29th, 2012 - June 28th, 2024
From Corey and Kelly Macik:
Absolutely the most painful update to write and share.... it is with profound sorrow and pure devastation to share our beloved Owen has passed away. Our sweet boy fought bravely against cancer and ongoing side effects from a bone marrow transplant, showing strength and resilience beyond measure.
Throughout this difficult journey, Owen taught us the true meaning of courage, hope, and love. Even in the toughest moments, he found ways to smile, laugh, and push forward through to the next thing, regardless of unimaginable challenges that came with his treatments over the last year.
As parents, we are incredibly grateful for the time we had with Owen. He brought so much love and joy into our lives, and we will cherish every memory forever. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he is now free from pain and surrounded by the love and peace that he so richly deserves.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our family, friends, neighbors, community, and the incredible medical team(s) who supported us throughout this journey. Your unwavering love, prayers, and kindness have been a source of immense strength for us. We have felt your embrace in every kind word, every comforting gesture, and every shared memory with Owen.
Owen's last moments were surrounded by family and loved ones. Additionally, Owen received significant love and care from the medical team(s) to have a peaceful and comfortable transition. We encourage everyone to cherish each moment with your loved ones and hold your children a little tighter today. Extra hugs in honor of Owen today.
Thank you for being a part of Owen's life and for standing by us during this incredibly challenging time. Your support has meant the world to us, and we are forever grateful.
Memorial service date and time will be shared soon.
*UPDATE: 4/28/24*
We hope this message finds you well. We are filled with gratitude for the incredible support you've shown for Owen and his family throughout this challenging journey. We wanted to take a moment to update you on Owen's current situation.
Unfortunately, Owen experienced a relapse in January and has undergone numerous rounds of chemo over the last 90 days to prepare for another bone marrow transplant. Owen and family were admitted to U of M Children's Masonic on April 19th and anticipate being inpatient for about a month while Owen recovers.
Your generous contributions have been instrumental in providing financial assistance for medical expenses, travel costs, and other necessities for Owen's wellbeing during this difficult time. As Owen continues his battle against cancer and given the recent events, we are increasing the goal to support the Maciks and ask for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers. The family will continue to use monetary gifts for medical bills, travel, and a variety of expenses while they are at the hospital and in the months to follow.
Other helpful donations are gift cards for gas, Target, or DoorDash. In addition, donations can be made direct to Corey's Venmo: @coreymacik
Homemade or store-bought meals are also significant for the family during this time. You can assist and sign up for a meal on their Meal Train: https://mealtrain.com/325qk8
The Macik family is deeply grateful for your continued messages of encouragement, support, prayers, and compassion during this time. Thank you for the help you are so graciously giving Owen and his family as they navigate this next chapter and alleviate financial burden where possible.

Hello. My name is Zoe and I'm helping to raise funds for my beloved friends, Corey and Kelly, and their family as they continue to support their son, Owen, and his cancer diagnosis.
Owen was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on May 12th, 2023.
During the last four months, Owen has received ongoing chemotherapy treatments. This has resulted in a number of side effects and various illnesses. Due to chemo treatments, he has been neutropenic leading to a blood clot, numerous infections, and about 10 weeks of hospital stays, clinic visits and a week in ICU to get appropriate care and oversight. Owen has shown incredible bravery and strength throughout this journey.
Owen has had many diagnostic tests and procedures to provide these treatments. He was initially implanted with a port that has been replaced with a central venous line (Hickman). He has also received a G-tube to be able to receive nutrition and numerous peripheral lines due to lack of appetite and nausea from the chemo meds and infections.
Owen's prognosis and response to chemo treatment has been positive thus far. The Macik family is preparing for a bone marrow transplant and were admitted to U of M Masonic Children's Hospital last Friday for the month of October.
Due to the items above, the Macik family has accumulated numerous medical bills and are anticipating a continued variety of expenses. They are humbly asking for your support to help in this way. The funds raised will be used to cover the following expenses:
*Medical Expenses: The cost of the treatment, including medications, hospital stays, and specialized care, has been significant.
*Travel: As the treatment facility is not close to their home, they need to travel frequently for Owen's appointments and Corey and Kelly swap nights at the hospital to stay with Owen.
*Educational Support: Owen has missed so much school due to his illness, and the family wants to ensure he can catch up on his studies and continue his education as he heals.
*Emotional and Psychological Support: Battling a life-threatening illness is emotionally taxing, especially for a young child. We want to provide Owen with the emotional and psychological support he needs to stay positive throughout his journey to recovery.
People have asked how they can help and financial contributions are the most helpful to provide relief. In addition, donations can be made directly to Corey's Venmo: @coreymacik
Your generosity will have a profound impact on Owen's life and the family's future. Every donation helps them get one step closer to seeing their son healthy and happy again.
Homemade or store-bought meals have been a huge help and continue to be. There is a Meal Train set up if you are so inclined to help in that way as well. https://mealtrain.com/325qk8
Corey and Kelly have done an incredible job of detailing and sharing Owen’s experience on his CaringBridge. Feel free to follow: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/owenmacik
There has already been a huge outpouring of love and The Macik family wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your support. Your love, prayers, and assistance give them the strength to keep fighting and believing in a brighter tomorrow for Owen.
Thank you for being a beacon of hope during this family's emotional rollercoaster as they lift up Owen during this time.
