Helping Hands for Ms Ale and Mr Carlos Cita

Dear Magellan Parent Community:

As some of you are aware, both Carlos (music) and Ale (PP3 TA) Cita have not been teaching our students this school year. They're awaiting approval of the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as part of the permanent residency process. Unfortunately, the process is taking longer than in years past, likely as a result of the pandemic and the current challenges faced by USCIS and the Department of Labor.

All teachers awaiting any immigration authorization status are prepared for a few months without income as a part of this process. However, the Cita family is now moving into month 4 without an income, and their savings are almost exhausted. The true timeline for issuing the EAD is unknown, and it is likely that they will need to wait for several months longer.

Based on the Citas’ monthly rent and living expenses for a family of 4, we projected a need of approximately $7,500. We are kindly asking our Magellan community to help in any big or small way you can.

Here is a personal note from Mr. Carlos:
“The biggest challenge for us right now is not being with our students and not being able to do the job we love. We miss our students daily and everyone that makes our dreams in this country possible. Special thanks to our school, Magellan, who has not abandoned us throughout this process. As our sponsor, we are still in this country because of them. Thank you, parents, from the bottom of our hearts. If you or our students want to call us to say hello, please do so (737) [phone redacted].  The organizer of this page can provide our phone number.  Con mucho cariño, Familia Cita.”

UPDATED NOTE AND ADDENDUM:

Dearest Magellan Friends,
First of all, an enormous thank you for everyone’s amazing response. This call to action is a collective effort by various Magellan parents that reached out and kindly included me.  The Citas are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for your generous contributions. They will personally reach out to each of you privately with their thank yous. The following is an addendum for added transparency requested by the GoFundMe Team in order to unpause withdrawl of funds to the Citas. Thank you, again!

1.- Who you are and where you’re from? Karla Escudero Clarke, resident of Round Rock, Texas.

2.-Your relationship or contact to the intended recipients of your fundraiser's donations. If you've added a beneficiary to withdraw, be sure their name and relationship are shared in your fundraiser story.  Mr. Carlos Cita has been my sons’ music teacher for over 5 years both at their school and in private lessons. Over the years, our families have become close and we are now dear friends.

3.- A clear explanation of how the donations will be spent. All donations will be spent to cover the Citas rent, household and grocery bills, as well as any living expenses, including car insurance and fuel for their vehicles in the months they are unable to work while their Employment Authorization Document gets approved in order to return to work.

4.-Your plan for delivering the fundraiser's donations to the intended recipient(s). Once funds are available for withdrawl, Carlos and Ale Cita will let me know how they wish to receive the donations, whether in cash or in the form of bank checks. I am in constant contact with Carlos Cita via text and phone, as well as in person, so he is kept abreast of the fundraising activities.
