Gofund Gophran!!!

Dear friends,  

I'm raising money to support a young Iraqi mother named Gophran and her baby, Neba.

I met Gophran in 2017 during the war in Mosul, Iraq. She was abandoned by her husband and gave birth in conflict, escaping the war zone by walking miles through the desert with her newborn baby, Neba. Gophran almost starved to death, and Neba weighed only three pounds when I met her - it's a miracle they both survived. I published Gophran's story in Glamour Magazine and in Pop Up Magazine's live theatre performance where I shared her story with thousands of audience members across America, but unfortunately, Gophran's life has not changed much. I love my job as a storyteller, but what I love more is making a direct impact in the lives of those whose stories I'm telling.

My hope is to raise enough money to facilitate Gophran's education as well as Neba's future needs. Gophran's (age 23) current reading level is at a 6th grade level - she didn't finish school because of a forced marriage. She is too old to go to the local school and there isn't a school near her home that teaches girls her age. However, with funding, I can buy her school books and can hire a private tutor to teach her subjects at home, including math and english, ensuring that she completes both primary and high school. I can also help Gophran to create a small sewing business, where she wants to make and sell clothes to support her daughter and her family (she loves to sew and is a very talented seamstress!)

Any amount you give, big or small, will make a huge difference and will positively impact Gophran's and Neba's future.
