EPIC stories come from epic journeys and the Godwinson Challenge 26 is no exception

Gav Collins aka The Strolling Saxon will be attempting to walk some 210 miles for 2 charities and 1 good cause this October 

Backstory

The Godwinson challenge is devoted to King Harold II Godwinson the last Anglo Saxon king who was famously killed at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The Bayeux Tapestry now sits in the British Museum and outlines those dramatic events 

To match this Anniversary 960 year of that Battle which is a major landmark in the county of Sussex’s History and that of the Nation - an EPIC challenge has been set 

Gav Collins in Dec 23, suffered injuries in a car crash that left him with spinal injuries and nerve damage down the whole left side of his body, at one point in Hospital he was told “you won’t walk again”

To date he’s defied medical science and taught himself how to walk again and now ge walks “for others less fortunate than himself “

The Strolling Saxon persona,although in Anglo Saxon attire of a bonfire society standard it has to be mentioned that he carries NO WEAPONS 

Gav is a proud member of both East Grinstead and Seaford Bonfire societies of Sussex

The Challenge itself

To walk from one end of Sussex to the other - from Chichester to Rye 

210 miles in a mere 10 days

Linking up with major town along the shoreline 

A shoreline that after the Battle of Hastings the Norman victors mocked the dead Saxon king for not defending 

The charities and Good cause

As per 1066 the Strolling Saxon aims to help others in their plight for most of Sussex in that year was laid to waste as per the doomsday book

Knight support 

They deal with Homeless clients in the Brighton region mainly. 

Did you know that there are around 7200 people across Sussex registered as Homeless

Trussell food banks 

The Strolling saxon has stipulated that monies raised from this walk to go only to Foodbanks based in Sussex Region

Did you know that regional data for the south east of area of England over 310,000 emergency food parcels have been sent out 

Harbourside gymnastics Newhaven

This team of gymnasts have been chosen to take part in going to a competition in the USA

They need money for travel and hotels plus the extra training

Your donation however small will be split 3 ways across all of the above causes 

Every penny will help 

It’s coming into the winter months -it’s hard for us all to-I get that -but there are people out there in great need, starving in Sussex …..

And a team of gymnasts that have a twinkle in their eyes and hearts of lions

The Strolling Saxon himself takes nothing from the monies donated. 

He will give it his all
