First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to click in and read this. I hope you can see where my heart is coming from, and that you will stand beside me to help some incredible people.
If you have had the pleasure of knowing Kaitlyn and Brodey, you know that they are the first to jump to help friends, loved ones, and strangers around them. Brodey has dedicated his life to helping others by becoming a paramedic to help those in need. They are generous and supportive, whether it be dropping by with food after a loss, lending a hand on a project, or just sitting around to listen and drink the whisky when times call for the whisky to be drank. I am hoping that we can gather together to offer them the same love and support that they so generously give of themselves to all of us. For those of you who haven’t met or gotten to know them, I assure you they are beyond deserving of your help.
For the past 2+ years, Brodey and Kaitlyn have been on a fertility journey to bring a little one into this world. They have had to undergo extensive testing and procedures, multiple fertility treatments and a round of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Unfortunately, they have also had to endure 2 pregnancy losses during this process, as well as the losses of Kaitlyn’s grandfather and Brodey’s best friend. This meant travel to New Brunswick and Manitoba respectively, right in the heart of their fertility journey. Recently they have also learned that Kaitlyn has a chromosomal abnormality that will require additional testing on all future embryos. There is already a basic testing cost per embryo, and now they will need to pay additional costs on each one going forward. For those that don’t know, all things fertility are EXTREMELY expensive. A single round of IVF can easily add up to cost over $20 000, without any reimbursements if it is unsuccessful. This is without the additional costs of travel, hotels, time off work, etc. Nothing is covered by Alberta Health Care or private benefits, aside from some medications. That being said, Kaitlyn and Brodey are now needing to restart with a new round of IVF. They have poured every dollar they can into their previous treatments. They have drained their savings accounts, pinched pennies in every area they can, and both work extremely hard to make their dreams a reality. To make matters worse, Kaitlyn’s company she was working for shut down, so she has had to search for new employment. They are at a standstill until they can save enough money to continue, and even then, there will still be many surprise costs that pop up along the way.
So many people, myself included, have asked what we can do to help. They are too humble to ever say that financial support is really what they need, so I am doing it for them. I know I have set a large goal, but the reality is that it is an extremely large cost. Every dollar counts, and no donation is too small. It all adds up. They have loved us so well. Let’s shower them with our love and aid, and help them bring a baby Kropla into this world. It really does need more Kropla's.
*I do have the permission of Kaitlyn and Brodey to share this. If it’s not for you, I ask that you just keep scrolling. Please keep any negative comments to yourself, as this is already a very vulnerable time for them. I also acknowledge that some of you may have had to go down your own fertility road without the support of friends and loved ones. I’m so sorry you didn’t have people to surround you during that time.*
