My name is Cara Fratianne-Laubhan. I am a 2nd year Master's Enrtry Program in Nursing student at University of San Diego. Two and a half years ago I co-created a feeding program in Gonaives, Haiti called the Rosemila Project. Gonaives is a vibrant city two and a half hours north west of Port-Au-Prince. We currently have 153 children ages 2-18 enrolled in our feeding program. Our ultimate goal is to have this program become self-sustainable in 5 years and completely Haitian run. I lead a mission trip last August to build a garden to start a farming program. Early July my colleagues Emily and Angeline led a team to Haiti to start a sewing workshop for the single mothers. To learn more about our project please visit our website at http://www.rosemilaproject.org or our blog at http://rosemilaproject. wordpress.com .

This December I will be teaming up with University of San Diego faculty and graduate level nursing students Emily DeRoss, Noor Diab, Eric Pitt, Ruth Turner, Alicia Foley, Kimmi Cordova, Ashley Mostowy, and Claire Dellegrotti to lead our first medical mission of 11 people. We will be performing detailed health assessments on all 153 students in our feeding program (including a local orphanage) as well as providing health education and improved access to medications and treatment. We will also be treating the children for any parasites and minor illnesses. We will be touring two hospitals in Gonaives (including a labor and delivery unit) and conducting health screenings for people in the mountains. We will also be visiting our sustainable garden and sewing workshop.
We are fundraising $3,000 to help purchase medical supplies for the school. For a detailed list of the supplies and medications we will be purchasing please feel free to contact me.
