Global Medical Brigades Mission

Last May I got the opportunity of a lifetime to travel with 30 of my fellow classmates and volunteers to Ghana, Africa to participate in one of the most life changing experiences of my life. For 10 days, we met with the people of Ekumfi Attakwa, one of the most humbling communities I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. 4 out of those 10 days we set up free clinics which included basic medical care and examinations. We had a triage center, doctor consultations, where we learned about disease, infections, and life-threatening illnesses, a pharmacy (in which I was Chair of Medication, all medicine and supplies were compiled and brought over by me and the work of so many willing and selfless individuals), Gynecology, Dental, and public health. With limited resources and doctors, this trip was extremely hands on and self-motivating. We, as students, as volunteers, were able to take care of patients, do light examinations in GYN, and even extract teeth in the dental unit.

This year I have been given the same opportunity, the same life-changing gift to travel to Panama and give the exceptional medical care that we gave in Africa. But in order to get there, there is a price tag and being apart of a student-led non-profit organization fundraising is extremely important. Last year I was able to fund my trip with 85% of donations. This year I hope to fund 100% of the trip through donations from friends, family, colleagues, and anonymous donors.

Myself and my fellow volunteers will be traveling to Panama for 10 days to help give all that we can to those in need.
