Hi everyone, my name is Kassi!

I’m 25 years old and currently in my second year, term three, of the Practical Nursing program. Nursing has always been my dream, and one of my biggest goals is to become a travel nurse so I can provide care to people in need, especially in communities where healthcare resources are limited.

I have been given the incredible opportunity to participate in the Be World Ready Global Learning Experience in the Dominican Republic. This opportunity is very restricted with spots, and I was lucky to get the opportunity this semester, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity through Niagara College. Through this program, I will:

✨ Attend interactive sessions at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, learning about global issues such as economics, justice, human rights, and healthcare systems

✨ Participate in cultural experiences and visit sustainability projects that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

✨ Gain hands-on experience and strengthen my nursing skills

✨ Learn about healthcare inequities and cultural perspectives

✨ Build a global mindset that I can carry into my nursing career

✨ Prepare myself to better serve patients from all walks of life

This trip is not just an opportunity—it’s a huge personal goal and stepping stone for me. It will prepare me for my future career, help me grow as a nurse, and open my eyes to the inequities and ethical dilemmas that patients and healthcare teams face around the world. I am so passionate about this, and it means so much to me to be able to take part.

Right now, I’m asking for support to help cover the program fee I must pay before the trip, as well as the costs of the volunteer trip itself. I’m currently not working so I can focus on my education, which makes it difficult to afford these costs. Unfortunately, I have to cover the program expenses within 48 hours or risk losing my spot for this amazing volunteer opportunity.
