Hi I'm Ava Knight. I am 16 and a 6th Form student. I have an incredible opportunity to travel with my college in July 2026 to the island of Zanzibar, off the East coast of Tanzania with Global Action.

Global Action is an environmental organisation that takes students around the world to learn about, and take action, on pressing global issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. Global Action help support financially local communities from the money paid taking students on these environmental study programmes.

During my time in Zanzibar I’ll be taking part in conservation work to help protect the island’s rich biodiversity and fragile marine ecosystems. I’ll be supporting and learning with local communities including seaweed farming, a recyling arts centre, collecting land and sea wildlife data (including the endangered Red Colobus Monkeys), and helping preserve the natural environment for future generations by planting mangrove sapplings.

The total cost of this once in a lifetime trip is £3,750. I am aiming to fundraise as much as possible! My most challenging fundraising event is completing a 21 mile Peak District walk with my dad on 7 March. "The Edale Skyline Challenge". This is a very tough 21 mile circular walk across the Peak District National Park, reaching up to 2,000 ft and passing through stunning locations like Mam Tor, Edale, Kinder Scout and Win Hill, with views of Ladybower Reservoir along the way.
