We write with the tragic news that Glen Vigo passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 23, 2023.
After 35 years in prison, Glen returned to his birthplace of Antigua on July 25th. Two days later he celebrated his 70th birthday with childhood friends at Carnival. In the nearly two months that followed, supported by donated funds, he was able to set up a home and began to realize his dream of opening a small restaurant. He befriended neighbors who enjoyed spending evenings with Glen on his porch, running errands around town, and driving around the island together. He spoke frequently of the love and generosity he felt from friends and strangers in Antigua.
Upon his return home, Glen was finally able to reconnect with his siblings, his daughter, Bibi, and his son Jay. Despite the distance they spoke multiple times a day, which was not feasible during his incarceration. His family planned to surprise him with a visit in December and put the finishing touches on his home. Nothing brought greater joy to Glen than their conversations and the anticipation their many forthcoming reunions.
We’ve found some solace in the knowledge that Glen spent his last months free, surrounded by the warmth of love and care from his family and friends, his days open to determine his own future, basking in the richness and fullness of life.
His unexpected and untimely death has come as shock to his family and friends. We are raising funds to assist with the exorbitant funeral costs in Antigua.
Thank you to everyone who donated – Glen was overwhelmed and in a state of disbelief. Your donations made his smooth transition home possible.
With love and gratitude,
Genevieve and Lucas

After 35 years spent in prison, Glen Vigo will be returning home on July 25, 2023, two days before his 70th birthday. We met Glen through the Parole Preparation Project and over the last three years have developed a close friendship.
Glen emigrated from Antigua to the Virgin Islands with his family when he was 13. At the age of 19 he moved to New York City, where he since has lived and worked. He was never naturalized and will be deported directly to Antigua upon his release without housing, funds, or family and friends to meet him. We are urgently raising money for the immediate cost of housing and food.
All proceeds will go directly to Glen.
Thank you for your support,
