Help Replace “Cruisy” – A Special Bike for a Special Girl
Donation protected
Hi folks. I am posting this on behalf of my neighbour. He and his family were recently the victim of theft: their daughter's two seater bike was stolen.
You might have seen the post on reddit or on Global news .
We're hoping we can raise some funds to replace the bike. They aren't cheap. Everything helps.
Here's a message from the man himself:
Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit. My daughter, who has special needs and a physical disability, can't ride a regular bike on her own. A couple of years ago, we found a unique adaptive bike that gave her that freedom. She instantly fell in love with it, and we lovingly named it “Cruisy.”
Cruisy became more than just a bike—it was her way of experiencing joy, independence, and adventure. She often asked when we’d take it out again, especially with the warmer weather returning. This past week, she was excitedly asking when our spring rides would begin. I promised her that on May long weekend, I’d pull Cruisy out and we’d go for a long ride together.
But that never happened.
On the Thursday before the long weekend, I discovered that Cruisy had been stolen from our yard. This wasn’t a random theft—someone came prepared with a truck or trailer, lifted this heavy, customized bike from where it had been stored all winter, and took it. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.
We’ve reported it to the police, and I’ve been checking local marketplaces like Kijiji and Facebook, but so far, no luck. This GoFundMe is my last resort. I’m hoping to raise enough money to replace Cruisy with a similar adaptive bike so my daughter doesn’t have to miss out on the rides she loves so much.
These specialized bikes aren't cheap, and insurance doesn't cover this kind of theft. Every donation—no matter how small—brings us closer to getting her back on the road, smiling in the wind.
This campaign is not something we had originally planned to do – the goal of sharing on social media was to get the word out and maybe someone would see the bike and we would get it back. The outpouring of goodwill from my home community and from as far away as the UK has been overwhelming, and the amount of offers to help us have been truly staggering.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting in any way you can.
With gratitude,
Glen
