Giving the Ostrom's Quality Time

Donation protected
Hey there, my name is Scott Jones and I really want to help a family going through some tough stuff right now and try to give them some more quality time together.

Raising two little girls is enough work without running a couple small businesses. Running a couple small businesses is tough enough without having to stop to travel to the next hospital that just might have the answers you are looking for or putting you on yet another treatment cycle.

Delorean and Mandy Ostrom are going through all of this and I want to be able to give them something we all take for granted sometimes, quality time. The stress of dealing with a rare cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and parenting and running a business is something I know these two can handle, but I'd like to help take the edge off of the peripheral stresses in the hopes they get more quality time and even do some things they will never forget.

I want people to give freely without judgment of how they use the gift. They have no idea I am planning this and my hopes are that they can create some more precious memories with the time.

I met Delorean through a project I created to help get everyday people to run ultra distances. He ended up being the athlete I coached and I got to know him really well. I would bet more than 80% of our calls had nothing to do with running. He is infectiously optimistic and loves his family. We would talk about coaching youth baseball and softball and small biz stuff. He wants to run these big efforts to raise money for the foundation and to be an inspiration for his young daughters. He doesn't complain and he doesn't make excuses in failure. I share this because they are the traits of someone that deserves some help but would never ask for it in this way!

I don't know Mandy personally besides a quick meet before a race but I would have to imagine her to be an amazing human to fight like this for her crew.

About the family:
  • Mandy has been dealing with the cancer for 4 or so years. It's a rare form and they have traveled the country looking for answers. They have been hard to come by but they keeping working to find them.
  • Delorean is a chef and uses his skills to raise money for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation with online cooking classes.
  • Mandy was a soccer player and Delorean loves baseball. Apparently they are trying to see who has more of an influence on their girls sports choices which is hilarious to me.
  • They live outside Atlanta

The Soft Spot:

We all know people who have gone through something like this but we all haven't acted when they really needed the help. My dad and mom received a 3 month to live diagnosis when I was a few years old. Every time I see this family I try to imagine my parents. My mom was still working crazy hours and taking care of us while my dad went through the treatment. I can only imagine a gift like this would have made the times a bit easier.

The Funds:

Simple, I'd like the Ostrom's to use the funds to create memories without stress. I hope they can go big but if we only raise 100 bucks I hope Delorean cooks up a world class feast. I hope you can help! The $8000 number is just a random number. It would be awesome to see what we can do together!
