Giving our Miracle Bagel baby a fighting chance
On Wednesday, May 13th my employee Shannon Hixson was transferred to MUSC for complications. At the time she was only 26weeks pregnant, her due date being August 20th. The next morning, Thursday, May 14th, they preformed an emergency csection. Shannon’s blood pressure would not stabilize and her baby girls heart rate could not handle it.
Little Miss. Amelia Diane was born that morning weighing 1 pound 1 ounce.
Thankfully she is breathing on her own, with little help. She is on antibiotics and has had two blood transfusions. She was eating on her own but needed to stop that for now. Her bilirubin was getting to high and had to begin treatment for jaundice. Amelia is definitely proving to the world that she’s a little fighter. She will have a long road ahead of her and will be in the NICU until late August. Things change daily for this little fighter and her momma. 
With all this coming out of nowhere, Shannon is not prepared financially. Shannon started working for me at Rain -N- Bagel in April of 2019, while attending collage. She was planning to work until the baby was born. Unfortunately with the covid virus, her hours have been cut back and her income wasn’t the norm. She is definitely in need of support. All of her family live in New Hampshire.
For the next two weeks she has a place to stay in Charleston. After that she has the expense of traveling back and forth, along with food cost and many other things, all while keeping up with her bills.
I’m asking my friends, family and bagel family if you can help this mom in her time of need. No amount is too small, and everything will be greatly appreciated!
