Giving Malachite a fighting chance.

Motivated by courage and gratitude, I am ready to share the life-changing experience that has taken place in our family over recent months.
Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a type of brain injury that occurs when an infant's brain doesn't get enough oxygen and blood flow, often during or shortly after birth. This lack of oxygen and blood flow can lead to brain cell damage and various neurological and developmental challenges. HIE can manifest in various ways, from mild to severe, and can have long-term consequences for affected children.
Malachite Kal-El Ely, born 2-12-2025 at 2:22 AM, an Angel given to this Earth by emergency cesarean operation, guided by mother’s intuition. He was “early” due to a serious arbitrary problem that caused him to have a lack of oxygen and nutrients. Had he been any later, he may not be here.
Malachite was immediately put on a breathing machine, had multiple blood transfusions, and a feeding tube. He underwent a 72-hour cold treatment for newborns, also known as therapeutic hypothermia or whole-body cooling, a revolutionary medical intervention used to reduce brain damage in babies who have experienced a lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, or HIE). I was finally able to hold him and hear him cry when he was 9 days old and feed him at 11 days old.
We were in the NICU for 23 days. Our life is forever changed from this miracle. He is surrounded by Angels and prayers from all. He has amazed the professionals in this specialty field and reminded so many already of the gratitude for life in this world. He has been through so much, with more special needs to come. My hopes in sharing this is to allow you into a bit of what our family has undergone lately and give hope to those who need it.
This fundraiser makes the support baby Malachite needs possible, with many therapies M-F and lots of specialists attention, all of our time and energy goes to providing a fighting chance during these crucial early developmental periods with hopes the neuroplasticity will do its magical work so he may have the most normal life possible.
Blessings and thank you for being a part of our story. ✨
