Giving Dylan a Lift

Let’s Give Dylan A Lift
Dylan’s Lift Project
Who is Dylan?
Dylan is an 11-year-old boy living in Rutland, Ma. in a caring , loving, but struggling family consisting of a single Mom, an older sister and a 5-year-old brother.
He has unrelenting major medical issues that leave him unable to walk but a few very painful steps. He is epileptic, a stroke has weakened his right side and he had left shoulder replacement that is not healing well.
What is the problem we want to solve?
The family lives in a two story, 14 stair walk-up house. Dylan has to sit and scoot up on his backside to reach the top. Because of his weakened arms he has to be helped but because of his shoulder replacement he can’t be lifted under the arms. Last winter he slipped and fell a couple of times taking his mother with him one of those times.
What is the proposed solution?
After prayerful consideration we feel compelled to act on this. We believe an all-weather exterior wheelchair elevator installed from driveway to entry level deck is best.
Other solutions Considered:
A ramp:  State rules would require a ramp to be a minimum of 93 feet long plus landings every 30 ft.
A stair lift: Because of his possible seizures while riding up this is considered too dangerous. Also, this leaves his wheelchair in the driveway.

What is the status?
Bottom cement landing: Local contractors have agreed to donate excavation, the cement work and electrical connections and lighting.
Alterations and extension of upper landing: The Helping Hands Ministry of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden, Ma. has agreed to donate all work and materials for this effort.
This leaves the lift itself: After extensive prayer and consideration we have committed to the purchase and installation of an exterior vertical wheelchair lift. Because of the above donations we have been able to lower our projected costs by $5,000

So now what?
WE NEED MONEY! There’s no other way to put it. We have started a Go-Fund-Me drive and are now looking for support through the wider community. Right in the middle of church stewardship pleas, right in the middle of the pandemic that has families struggling, right when families may feel stretched to their limit, we need the community to do this one more thing. We have a young boy that will have to humble himself and scoot up icy steps on his backside if we can’t get this done before winter arrives. Please prayerfully consider how each of you can help.

[Donations are being collected through Go Fund Me [] or through Immanuel Lutheran Church 346 Shrewsbury St Holden, Ma. Marked “Dylan’s Lift. Thank you for whatever you can do.
