Four weeks ago, my life changed in an instant when I suffered an ischaemic stroke.
What followed was the most frightening and difficult period my family and I have ever faced. During that time, the teams at Jubilee ICU at Queen’s Hospital cared for me with extraordinary kindness, compassion, dignity and skill.
The medical care I received was exceptional, but they did so much more than treat me medically. They supported me emotionally, encouraged me through the dark moments, supported my family, celebrated every tiny step forward, and reminded me that recovery was possible. During my most vulnerable moments, they treated me not just as a patient, but as a person.
There are simply no words big enough to thank the nurses, doctors, therapists and support staff who helped save my life and begin my rehabilitation journey.
This fundraiser is my way of giving something back, helping to support patient care, comfort, rehabilitation and wellbeing initiatives for future patients and families facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.
All money raised will be shared between:
Jubilee ICU
To provide essential patient comfort items such as shampoo caps, shampoo and conditioner, detangling brushes, hair scrunchies and eye masks.
The ICU Rehabilitation Team
To purchase hand rehabilitation equipment such as grip-strengthening bands, sensory items and therapy squishies.
The Stroke Ward (HASAU A & B) Rehabilitation Department
To provide therapeutic activities and rehabilitation resources including jigsaws, Velcro darts and mini footballs.
The Stroke Discharge Support Team at Benfleet Ward, Southend
To help provide printed information packs, leaflets and essential stationery so patients leave hospital with comprehensive support information.
If you are able to donate , no matter how small, thank you from the bottom of my heart
With gratitude,
Angela, Steve & Grace
