Last month when I was in Barcelona, I met this lovely woman called Anna. It started with me buying her an empanada and a bottle of water (as she is homeless and has no money) but then we ended up having lunch together every day for the following week. We sat, we ate, we talked and we became friends. Anna is 50 years old and originally from Equitorial Guinea. She loves tuna empanadas, peach/pineapple juice, hip hop and blues music and has always dreamt of visiting Dominican Republic. Sadly, she has now been living on the streets for 32 years, 19 years in Barcelona and 13 years in Madrid before that. She relies on the kindness of strangers to help her get by but her whole life is carried around in two IKEA bags and she sleeps in the park every night. Anna is a very sweet woman who has just been dealt a bad hand in life and it's a very difficult situation to get out of. She told me she knows people in the area but has no real friends and suffers from a lot of racism. I told her I would come back soon and that she always has a friend in me. When I heard that she had been sleeping rough for the same amount of time as my ENTIRE LIFE, I just wanted to do something to help her. I am going back to Barcelona a couple of weeks from now and I want to try to raise some money for her. I realise any money raised will not change her life nor get her off the streets but even if it can just help her stay in a hostel for a week or have lunch for a month, that's something that can make her life easier, even if only temporarily. I also realise that, unfortunately, she is one of many, many homeless people and I wish I could raise money to help everyone. I know times are tough right now, life is expensive and many of you will already be giving money to charities, other causes or your own local homeless community. I don't expect anything from anyone but if you do happen to have a spare few quid and would like to help Anna, I have put a link in my bio to donate. Any amount big or small still helps - for example, £3 can get her an empanada or £1 for a bottle of water. I'm going to kickstart the fundraiser with £50 myself. Thank you in advance to anyone who does donate and no worries if you don't, I'm sure you're helping the world in other ways (goes without saying but every penny raised will be withdrawn and given to Anna)
