Melodie “Mel” Malone is always a beam of light. She has a warm spirit and always has an intensive need for giving back. Melodie is a 23-year-old, Fall 2017 graduate of The Illustrious Southern University and A&M College. Throughout her time at Southern, Mel was a four-year member of the Women’s Volleyball team, a two-year member of The Collegiate 100, a Spring 2016 initiate of the Beta Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and a loving, caring and sweet spirit to all that has crossed paths with her.
After graduating Melodie moved back to Dallas, Texas where she teaches 3rd Grade at Harmony Science Academy in Garland, Texas. Melodie is also a part of the coaching staff for Travel Volleyball Club Blocksport where she coaches the 14’s elite team. Upon her arrival to Dallas she also joined the Southern University Alumni Chapter of Dallas.
Many of you may know Mel as: a friend, a teammate, a sorority sister, a teacher, a colleague and family. But today we ask, no matter how you know Melodie, we need each and every one of you to come together in support of Melodie and her family at this time.
On October 20th, Mel and 4 others were involved in a very serious car accident which left all members involved, hospitalized. Unfortunately, Melodie is suffering from severe injuries and due to the extent of her injuries she will remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, until further notice. So far Melodie has endured 4 pervasive surgeries and may need more in the near future. This is only the beginning for Melodie, but she is a fighter and she has always been strong.
There have been many people from far and wide asking, what we can do or how can we help support Melodie and her family?
Since Mel has only been employed for a short time with Harmony Science Academy, she does not have enough credited time to receive medical insurance or benefits. Mel also has external payments such as her apartment’s rent and utilities and along with that, since the ICU only permits short visitation periods at sporadic times, Melodie’s mother is staying at the hospital hotel (at + $80 per night) on standby hoping to see Mel and get regular updates as much as possible. At this time there are no public visitors allowed, at the request of her family’s wishes.
With that being said, Melodie and her family needs our endless support financially and spiritually. We ask all of you to please continually pray for Melodie’s full recovery and her increasing strength, we also ask for you to pray for Melodie’s close loved ones.
Any financial giving that you would like to donate is and will be greatly appreciated. Give with love, give with faith and give from your heart. No donation for Melodie is too small!! All funds and proceeds will go towards: Melodie’s medical bills/care, Melodie’s external payments of rent and utilities and finally to cover the cost of hotel stay for her mother.
