My name is Natasha Sym, and I am a piano teacher based in East Lothian. Through my own personal experience, I have seen how profoundly transformative learning an instrument can be. Music has not only become my career, but it has also given me direction, offered an escape, and helped me form some of my closest friendships.
Yet for many children and adults, the opportunity to learn an instrument remains out of reach. One of the biggest barriers is financial accessibility—particularly access to an instrument to explore, practise, and enjoy.
I am raising funds to donate an electric piano to Tranent Library, a welcoming community space open six days a week and used by people of all ages.
By placing an electric piano in the library, we can:
- Give children and adults the chance to discover music for the first time
- Support students who don’t have regular access to an instrument at home but would like to work towards a goal (for example, practising to achieve their school Highers in Music)
- Encourage creativity, wellbeing, and community connection
- Make music accessible to everyone, regardless of background or income
The Goal
Our goal is to raise £1,500 to purchase a good-quality electric piano that offers a beautiful sound—because that is what music is all about.
Any additional funds raised will be used to support children and young people who face financial barriers to music education. This may include:
- Contributing towards a limited number of music lessons
- Helping with the purchase of an instrument
- Supporting access to a musical instrument library
How You Can Help
Every donation—no matter the amount—will help open the door to music for someone in our community.
Please donate today and help us bring music to everyone. Your support will create lasting opportunities, spark creativity, and ensure that music is available to all.
