Give Safe Water. Build a Service That Lasts
In many Nigerian communities, the search for water begins before the day truly starts.
A mother wakes early to find water before preparing her children for school. A child carries a heavy container when they should be carrying only books. Families depend on unsafe wells, distant streams or boreholes that may work today and fail tomorrow.
This is water poverty!!!
Globally, 2.1 billion people still lack safely managed drinking water. In Nigeria, an estimated 40 million people lack adequate access to water.
But the problem is not only the absence of water infrastructure. Too often, water projects are constructed and abandoned when pumps fail, maintenance is unavailable or no local management system exists.
FairAction’s research across more than 1,700 communities in Oyo, Osun and Ekiti States found that:
- 49.8% had no improved water source
- Of the 856 communities with water infrastructure, 418 systems had already failed
- Roughly one in every four mapped communities had received a water investment that no longer worked
When a borehole fails, a community loses more than water. Children lose time that should be spent in school. Women lose hours that could support their families and livelihoods. Households return to unsafe wells and streams.
How FairAction is changing the story
FairAction Nigeria is working to end water poverty by building sustainable, affordable and community-led water services.
We do not simply drill a borehole and leave.
Before installing a system, we assess the community’s water needs, environment, existing infrastructure, affordability and previous project failures. We then combine solar-powered infrastructure with water-quality testing, local operators, community management, digital monitoring and planned maintenance.
The goal is not just to build infrastructure. It is to create a water service that remains safe, reliable and functional for years.
FairAction Nigeria has already:
- Installed 5 Smart Water Systems in underserved Oyo State communities
- Dispensed more than 7.2 million liters of safe water
- Reached over 5,000 direct beneficiaries
- Achieved 100% sustainability across its operating systems
- Recorded approximately 99.72% system reliability
- Mapped over 3700 communities to identify where water poverty is most severe
What this fundraiser will support
We are raising funds to provide a complete Smart Water System for 30 underserved Nigerian communities.
The community will be selected through Target 6.1 FairAction’s water-poverty mapping, field verification and technical assessment.
Your donation will support:
- Community assessment and engagement
- Hydrogeological investigation
- Borehole drilling and development
- Water-quality testing
- Solar-powered pumping equipment
- Water storage and collection points
- Digital monitoring technology
- Training for local operators and water committees
- Preventive maintenance and technical support
This campaign is not funding another isolated borehole. It is funding a complete water service designed to last.
Our 100% project-delivery commitment
FairAction operates a 100% project-delivery model for this campaign.
Every net donation received, after unavoidable GoFundMe processing and international transfer charges, will go directly into delivering the water project. No campaign funds will be diverted to unrelated organizational activities.
Supporters will receive updates on community selection, funds received, construction progress, water-quality testing, project expenditure, system commissioning and the number of people reached.
- Help us change one community’s story
- No child should miss school because they are searching for water.
- No mother should have to choose between unsafe water and no water.
- No community should receive a water project that fails and is forgotten.
Your donation can help provide safe water, protect health, restore dignity and build a service that a community can depend on.
Please donate and share this campaign with your family, friends, colleagues and networks.
Give safe water. Build a service that lasts. Change a community’s story.
