Give Rachel and Kanan a Fresh Start

Hello! My name is Rachel & I am here to share my story & ask for a helping hand to a new beginning.

Living through the international crisis that was the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone has lost something important, something or someone of value to them. I, graduating high school in 2022, started my life with less than most in my age group due to that fact. I did everything I could to further my education but with no help from immediate family members & no way to make ends meet, I was forced to work multiple jobs to help my mother, who was directly affected by the pandemic.

We continued to scrape by until I fell pregnant & could no longer afford to continue working to the extent that I was. Through a difficult pregnancy, we all became displaced & I was forced to move into a shelter. There, I had my beautiful baby boy, Kanan, who is always so happy & so fond of the world.

In the shelter, I took every possible opportunity, did all I possibly could to secure a good job, continue to pursue an education, and create a stable environment for Kanan.

Even in the shelter, with all the resources I had available to me, I still struggled to keep my head above water. I still care for my mother, who has multiple severely compromising health conditions, which does not allow her to work.

Today, I have the opportunity to reconnect my family and start anew. With a better paying job and a new path to pursue my education, I can confidently say that I am ready for this new pathway of growth.

We have a home that is waiting for us, keys ready. However, due to the opportunity striking itself at such a hard time, we do not have the resources or the funds to be able to pay to move in. It is first, last, and security that we won’t be able to cover totaling to about $6,000.

I understand that we are all struggling as a people to make ends meet. We are all trying to make a better tomorrow for ourselves. I was never given the chance to start fresh before & with the kindness of all of you, I will be able to create a life for my son that I can be proud of. I can give him a space, a real one, where he can explore, grow, and love as we show him now, through all of our hardships.
