Give Preston and Lefty a Fresh Start

Hi, I’m Kristin, and I’m raising funds to help my brother Preston & his loyal canine companion, Lefty, buy their first home—a safe, modest place in West Virginia where he can finally begin to rebuild after a lifetime of unimaginable hardship.

Preston’s journey has been marked by tremendous loss—from a life-altering accident to the passing of his wife not long after they married. Through it all, he’s kept going.

On his 30th birthday, Preston was involved in a devastating accident that resulted in an above-the-knee amputation. This was not long after he had suffered a brutal assault that shattered his cheekbones, jaw, and nose. He’s lost everything—twice—in two separate fires at sub-standard rentals, including his beloved dogs. Most recently, after the second fire destroyed his home in Florida, he relocated to West Virginia to stay with a friend and start over once again. That's where he also brought sweet Lefty into his life.

Now, at 55, Preston has found a small home listed at $47,000. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s safe, stable, and his chance to finally have a place of his own. I’m contributing the 20% down payment, but Preston needs help covering the rest—closing costs, basic furnishings, and a cushion to help him manage monthly payments on his SSDI income of just $1300.

7/14/25 updates: We put in the earnest money today. One step closer! I also added a new image, envisioning Lefty sleeping in a sunny spot in the new house. :)

7/15/25 updates: I added an image of the house Preston intends to purchase. Today, I generated an image to represent Preston doing woodworking in the garage of the new home. He has done nice work creating charcuterie boards and cutting boards in the past, and this new house would allow him space to do that!
