Give our Fight with Cancer a Fighting Chance

Hello, we are Kim, Lexie & Andrew.
This all started in October of 2024 when Kim went in for a excruciating pain in her side, I rushed her to Emergency, luckily they took her in right away.
The doctor after many tests and morphine said she needs surgery to remove her gallbladder.
Well two days later I took her in for surgery not knowing what was to come other than a removal and hoping she would recover and things would go back to some what of a normalcy.
What came next after surgery was... well it made my heart sink, the surgeon said that Kim's gallbladder was all shriveled up and she wanted to send it for testing.

Testing they did and when the results came back it was confirmed it was Cancer.
They wanted to do more testing and scans/ultrasound and found that there were marks on her liver, they said that it could just be legions from the removal of the gallbladder where they might have nicked it.
They just could not confirm for sure without surgery, so we had to drive down to VGH Hospital in Vancouver for this surgery, that wasn't much fun since Kim was still trying to recoup from her Hip replacement surgery in July also in Vancouver.
Any way, in the truck and of we went after our daycare, thank god for her said she would look after Lexie while in Vancouver.
Kim went in for surgery and I waited nervously for her to come out of surgery in the hospital.
I received a call from the recovery floor where Kim was and she asked if I could come up to calm Kim as a result of the sedative she had received she was in and out of consciousness and very confused and scared.
I was up and at her side in a heartbeat.
I was able to calm her and after about 20 minutes she went to sleep.

The doctor that had done her surgery to remove a small part of her liver basically said that when he opened her up the Cancer had spread to much and that he just took lymph nodes a small part of liver and a small piece of the inner stomach wall to send for testing and confirmed it was in fact Cancer.
I was in shock and I don't remember much after that until the nurse called me to say that she was awake now and being moved to her room.
We spent the next 6 days in hospital until her stats were good enough to travel back north to home.
It took a while to get the first chemo treatment booked, the first part of the first treatment went ok for Kim it was the second part of the first treatment that would be the scariest for us.
It was about a day after the second part at about 8 pm of the first treatment that Kims temperature went to 38.6 and she was very weak, we rushed her to the Hospital and they rushed her in to the ER thank goodness and started testing and treating her.
The second day in they started to give her IV for platelets and then a blood transfusion because her white cell count was low, the first transfusion went ok, then they moved her to her own room for further treatment.
They then wanted to give her another blood transfusion along with a heavy hitter of antibiotics to stop what they thought might be a infection of some sort which they said they didn't really know what it was, that was when about 8min in to that blood transfusion Kim started to have a very bad reaction to this.
I am so thankful that the nurse that was watching over Kim that night was on the ball and noticed what was happening and stopped the IV and asked another nurse to call for the Resident Doctor to come to her immediately.
At one point there was two Doctors and six nurses in her room.
Kims Temp went to 39.4 I think it was not good and Kim's blood pressure fell really low and was having a real hard time breathing.
Kims white blood cell count fell to .4 and her Neutralite went down to .2 very low.
Well on the ninth day of being in Hospital her counts went up thank goodness to WBC 30.3 from .4 and N 17.3.
She was and is very weak, still and her second treatment has been postponed of course.
I am currently off work and waiting for Compassionate Care from the government to kick in so I can be home for Kim and Lexie.
As you could imagine making sure Kim is looked after during the day is proving to be very challenging and making sure Lexie who is 8 eats and gets to school is a tall order for one person.
Kim is still very weak but seems to be healing finally from surgery in october, it has taken longer for her to heal than it would normally.
I have recently asked Kim to marry me and she said yes, we are currently saving for our forever home, moving forward to make our dreams come true with a positive outlook and to create a place where she can heal body & soul.

So here we are and I know there are alot of family's out there going through their fight as well and my thoughts go out to them for them to win their fight with this awful disease.

We Thank everyone for their support and our thoughts are with everyone who is also taking this one day at a a time.

Love Kim, Lexie, Andrew
