My name is Kenneth Marzo, one of Olga Moreno’s four children. After a year of intense treatment, we were told there’s nothing more oncology can do. But my mom is still fighting—hoping for more time and one last chance to see her home country.

Olga Moreno is the heart and soul of our family. A woman of quiet strength, she worked for decades—riding buses, walking miles—to make sure her children never went without. She’s our mom, our hero, our “little that could.” Now she’s fighting the toughest battle of her life: advanced squamous cell carcinoma. And we’re doing everything we can to fight beside her.

Her Medical Journey

In 2024, our mom was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. After a biopsy, a tumor rapidly grew to the size of a grapefruit, making her gravely ill. Emergency care treated the infection but not the cancer—and insurance issues kept her from seeing an oncologist in time.

By the time treatment finally started, she weighed just 60 lbs. Chemo and radiation began while she was still fragile. She slowly began to improve—until a second biopsy triggered yet another dangerous tumor flare-up.

We changed hospitals and found a wonderful oncologist who gave us hope—but was later forced to switch specialties. The new doctor who replaced them was unfamiliar with my mom’s case, and her condition declined again.

Eventually, we were sent home and told there was nothing more that could be done. The amount of damage the treatments caused to her body has been devastating. But even now, we are holding onto hope—because our mom has one wish: to see her home country again.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Between my sisters and me, we’ve done everything we can:

• Spent all of our paid time off and savings

• Sold our childhood home to move mom somewhere safe and accessible

• Hired an aide to help care for her while we try to stay employed

Now, we are turning toward holistic and integrative treatments—new therapies that focus on healing her body gently, with hope instead of harm. But they are costly and not covered by insurance.

We are asking for $20000 to give our mom a real fighting chance. This will help cover:

• Holistic and supportive medical treatments

• Travel and relocation for care and healing

• Ongoing medical assistance and in-home support

• Rent for our mom, and help with our own rent and mortgage, so we can fully focus on her care without fear of losing our homes

This would give us the time and stability to dedicate our whole hearts and lives to saving the little woman who gave us everything she could.
