Help Jamel Walk Again: A Father’s Fight After Two Strokes
Jamel Alford is a devoted father, a hardworking truck driver, and a proud small business owner who has always done whatever it takes to care for his family.
But on January 20, 2025, Jamel’s life was turned upside down.
He suffered two unexpected strokes, which left him unable to move the entire left side of his body. The strokes caused left-sided weakness and a condition called foot drop, which makes walking extremely difficult. Jamel spent two weeks in the ICU, followed by several more weeks on the stroke unit and rehab floor. After more than two months in the hospital, he was finally discharged on March 28.
Since then, Jamel has been giving everything he has to recover. He now wears a brace on his leg, uses a walker and wheelchair to get around, and works tirelessly in physical therapy to regain his strength and independence. But while his spirit is strong, the road ahead is long—and expensive.
Why We’re Asking for Help
Before his stroke, Jamel was an owner-operator truck driver. He built his livelihood from the ground up and provided for his family through dedication and long hours on the road.
But because he was self-employed, Jamel is not eligible for disability benefits or SSI. He has had no income since January and is now facing the terrifying possibility of losing his ability to receive the care he needs for his recovery.
This is the harsh reality many small business owners face when medical emergencies strike.
How Your Support Can Help
Jamel is fighting hard to walk again—and he shouldn’t have to fight alone. Your donation will help cover critical needs, including:
Outpatient therapy sessions not covered by insurance
Medical equipment and supplies (braces, mobility aids, etc.)
Living expenses like rent, utilities, and transportation to rehab
Daily essentials for Jamel and his family during this recovery journey
No gift is too small. Every dollar helps Jamel take one step closer to healing—and gives him hope that he’s not alone in this fight.
If you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing this page with your community. Your support means more than you know.
By the grace of God, Jamel is still with us. Now, with your help, we hope to see him back on his feet—literally.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, kindness, and support.
With gratitude,
