<div>Jamel Alford is a devoted father, a hardworking truck driver, and a proud small business owner who has always done whatever it takes to care for his family.

<div>But on <strong>January 20, 2025</strong>, Jamel’s life was turned upside down.

<div>He suffered <strong>two unexpected strokes</strong>, which left him unable to move the entire left side of his body. The strokes caused <strong>left-sided weakness </strong>and a condition called <strong>foot drop</strong>, which makes walking extremely difficult. Jamel spent two weeks in the ICU, followed by several more weeks on the stroke unit and rehab floor. After more than <strong>two months in the hospital</strong>, he was finally discharged on March 28.

<div>Since then, Jamel has been giving everything he has to recover. He now wears a brace on his leg, uses a walker and wheelchair to get around, and works tirelessly in physical therapy to regain his strength and independence. But while his spirit is strong, the road ahead is long—and expensive.

<div><strong>Why We’re Asking for Help</strong>

<div>Before his stroke, Jamel was an <strong>owner-operator truck driver</strong>. He built his livelihood from the ground up and provided for his family through dedication and long hours on the road.

<div>But because he was self-employed, Jamel is <strong>not eligible for disability benefits or SSI.</strong> He has had no income since January and is now facing the terrifying possibility of losing his ability to receive the care he needs for his recovery.
