As you may know, Jack has moved from his photography studio on 9th Ave N to a TEMPORARY LOCATION (two months). While it was an unexpected move, it's also an excellent opportunity to show our GRATITUDE for all he has done for our city! Thompson has been photographing Myrtle Beach since before the city was founded in 1957!
In 1951, at just 13 years old, Jack hitchhiked to "Myrtle." He followed the smell of photography chemicals and got his first job in a photo booth at the Pavillion. He took his first photo that day and has continued to photograph Myrtle Beach ever since. If you are a born and raised local or brand new to the area, Jack's commitment to being our "historian" has benefited us all! How else could you earn the nickname Mr. Myrtle Beach?!
** Why he had to move is of no importance; landowners have a right to use their property. What IS essential now is we help give it back to Jack! He has THOUSANDS of pictures of Myrtle Beach; we need to figure out a way for these photos to be preserved and enjoyed for generations. We need to raise money in addition to helping him find a new studio. Most importantly, Jack needs to know that all the love he has poured into Myrtle Beach has been appreciated!
