Ryan and Jena Seay and family
Medical Emergencies are just one thing that hit the Seay family. Ryan has been out of long-term work for almost two years due to the strike in the movie industry. They are close to losing their home.
Family and friends have been there to support and help them, and we are so thankful for that. But when calamities and adversities keep hitting, it can be overwhelming and hard to overcome.
It started several years ago when Ryan and Jena’s youngest was born. A normal hospital birth turned into an eleven-day NICU stay. Baby Benjamin’s hands and feet didn’t turn pink. They were still blue several hours after his birth. Concerned for his lungs, Ben was put on an incubator and many tests were run. He was treated for bacteria in the lungs.
Several months later, Ryan suffered a life-changing injury while on the job at a movie set, almost losing his thumb. Thankfully, Worker’s Comp covered this medical emergency, but Ryan was out of work over the Christmas holiday and into the New Year. When finally cleared to return to work, the Hollywood Actors Guild declared a strike. There was no work to return to.
Their third child Brodie, at the time only 3 years old, decided to play Superman and fell and broke his arm. A pretty normal thing for active boys, but the medical bills started climbing again. Ben’s medical bills still hadn’t been paid off. Though they had been making regular payments to the hospitals and doctors who attended Ben and Jena while they were hospitalized, the medical bills were enormous.
While all of this was going on, Jena had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Some days were good, but there were many days when the inflammation and pain of fibro flared up so much, that Jena would be bedridden.
Even after the strike ended, the movie industry in Georgia was slow to start filming movies again. Ryan is just one of thousands of movie workers who have not had work in Georgia for almost two years.
Ryan began submitting applications and resumes for positions outside of the movie industry once it became clear that there would be no work for him in his field as an electrician and grip on set. But nothing has come of this yet.
Willing to do whatever he could to keep his family going, Ryan took side jobs doing yard work and landscaping. He supported Jena in building her YouTube channel “Busy with Dogs ” by filming and editing her videos. He also took on side jobs editing videos for other YouTubers. He helps his mother-in-law by editing videos for her YouTube channel Sweet Herbin’ Livin’ too. He does this free of charge because she lost her job in the summer of 2023.
Btw – if you or someone you know needs videos edited for YouTube or other reasons, Ryan does a great job at this. While still looking for a full-time position, Ryan does excellent work on editing and creating original music for content creators. He’d LOVE IT if you have paid work to send his way!
Not only is Jena building her YouTube channel and business, but she is also writing children’s books and has created a downloadable journal for those who train service dogs. But these haven’t gained traction, YET. We know all her hard work will pay off one day.
While they are both working on what they can, they need the helping hands of a larger community now. They are at risk of losing their home very soon.
Please give what you can. Large or small, every bit coming together can make a world of difference for this family. Sometimes, we need one positive thing to get the ball rolling with momentum in our favor. Thank you for being a part of that positive change.
